Shirley Ann Rankin Obituary

Shirley Ann Rankin, 83, of Franklin passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2019. She was the daughter of the late John Walters and Uva Leon Walters. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Mark Rankin; daughter, Cheryl Dwinnells; twin daughters, whom died shortly after premature birth; sister, Beverly Zawodny, and brother, Mervin Walters. Shirley was a member of Hayesville Presbyterian Church and affiliated with First Presbyterian Church of Franklin. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years, Franklin Woman’s Club, West Coast Porcelain Artists Club, Florida Porcelain Art Teachers, and a past officer and director at large of the World Organization of China Painters. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Russell Rankin; son, Steven Rankin of Sarasota, FL; brother, Bob Walters of Felch, MI; five grandchildren, Phillip, BreAnna, Marisa, Amber, and Kayla; and two great-grandchildren, Evan and Ariana. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 2 pm, Saturday, June 29 at First Presbyterian Church on Church Street in Franklin. Rev. Tempe Fussell, Rev. Bob Abel, and Pastor Linda Abel will officiate. The family will receive friends at a reception in Tartan Hall following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Matthew 28 at Hayesville Presbyterian Church, 73 Hiawassee St, Hayesville, NC 28904, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
