It is with great sadness that the family of Peter Michael Van Besien announces his passing on Saturday, March 7, 2020, in Charlotte, North Carolina, after an extended illness. He was 56 years old. Pete was born September 18, 1963 in Fairfax County, Virginia. He was raised in Northern Virginia and graduated from McLean High School in McLean, Virginia and East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina with a bachelors degree in Urban Planning. He had a very strong work ethic and was always looking for new employment opportunities. He loved moving to new places and had the opportunity to live in many cities throughout the Eastern United States during his lifetime. He also enjoyed a career as an over-the-road driver that allowed him to travel the United States. He was an avid sports enthusiast and especially loved cheering for the Washington Redskins. Pete was a devoted son and loving brother and will be greatly missed by his family. Pete was preceded in death by his father, George Michael Van Besien Sr. and two infant brothers. He is survived by his mother, Jaqueline Marie Van Besien, sisters, Anne Marie (Stephen) Shepherd, Jean (Mike) Collins, Jacki (Sam) Allston, brothers, Steve (Maureen) Van Besien and George Van Besien. He will be fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews, Kelly Van Besien, George Van Besien, Kevin Van Besien, Nicholas Van Besien, Andrew Van Besien, Kate Collins, Caroline Allston, Simons Allston, Patrick Cooley and Lauren (Dave) McCullough. In death Pete was able to change the life of three individuals through organ donation. In his honor, please consider registering for organ donation.
