Samuel Plyler

Samuel Louis Plyler, 93, of Lancaster, died Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at MUSC Lancaster Medical Center. He was born September 20, 1925, in Lancaster, a son of the late Pleasant May Plyler, Sr. and Corinne Funderburk Plyler. Mr. Plyler was an active member of Tabernacle UMC and a faithful participant in Sunday School, Methodist Men, and the Good Years Club. He also served in his community as President of the Buford Neighborhood Crime Watch, and was a member of the Cattlemen’s Association. He served his country in the United States Navy and was a past exalted ruler in the Elks organization. He worked as a multi-car transporter for City Car Releasing in Michigan until retirement. After returning to South Carolina, he enjoyed working with his brothers running the Plyler Brothers Farm. He enjoyed raising cattle and working his garden. Mr. Plyler is survived by his brother, Uriah W. Plyler and many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. Although he had no children of his own, he loved all children who were drawn to him by his joy for life and happy disposition. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Plyler, and four brothers, P.M., Fred, Bill, and Bruce. A funeral service for Mr. Plyler will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at Tabernacle UMC in Lancaster. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery. The family requests that memorials be made to Tabernacle UMC, 5908 Tabernacle Road, Lancaster, SC 29720 or the charity of one’s choice. A Simple Service Burial and Cremation is serving the Plyler family.
