Anthony A. Brodfuhrer Rutherfordton, North Carolina Obituary

Anthony A. Brodfuhrer

Anthony Brodfuhrer, age 86, of Lake Lure, passed away peacefully on August 13th from complications of COPD and Leukemia. Tony, as everyone knew him, was a beloved member of everything – the Fairfield Mountains Fire Department, the Fairfield Mountains Chapel, several past positions on the Rumbling Bald POA and the town of Lake Lure planning and zoning board, the board of the Lake Lure ABC store, and the Blue Bag Lunch Beer Drinkers golf group. He has traveled the world, and was an accomplished woodworker and novice wood-turner. Tony was born in 1934 in Brooklyn, NY, to Eric and Hermine Brodfuhrer. He was raised in Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Bronxville, NY. He graduated from Lafayette College in 1956, and then served for several years as a lieutenant in the US Army. Tony married his college sweetheart, Karla, in 1957, and they were together for 56 years, until her passing. Tony worked his entire career with Union Carbide. He dragged his wife and family across the country and to South Africa, ascending just a few rungs of the corporate ladder. He retired in 1989, and moved to Lake Lure from Ohio in 1992. Tony leaves behind two sons, Russell (Sandra) and Douglas (Kathie), both of New Jersey, a daughter, Karen, of Florida, four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren, and a dog, Maggie. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Eric. A memorial service in Tony’s honor will be held on a later date. Please consider donations to the Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, PO Box 336, Forest City, NC 28043 (https://hocf.org/) in memory of Tony.
