Obituary for Bennie Greene

Bennie Greene, AKA “Doc” died at Hospice House in Forest City, NC on May 20, 2020 after fighting a fierce battle with long term illness. He leaves behind his sweetheart and wife of 57 years, Kathy Greene along with his two children, Wade Greene (Cheryl) and Dana Davis (Michael). Bennie was Pepa to his grandchildren: Nathaniel Davis (Annie), Katie Ford (Cole), Ryan Greene (Zoey), Ricky Greene (Denise) Mark Davis (Rebecca), Matthew Davis, and great grandchildren: Struther Greene and Jude Greene. He has two surviving sisters: Mary Broadwater and Alice Bailey. He is preceded in death by his parents: Hobert and Hattie Green along with siblings: Gilmer Bradley, George Bradley, Anne Liese, Lizzie Hudgins and Geneva Nelon. He leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews whom he held close to his heart.
Bennie Greene was born on October 18, 1942 in Sunny View, NC. As a teen, he moved to Indiana to find work where he met his wife, Kathy and they married and had two children before “moving back home.”
Bennie Greene loved a challenge. Whether it was striving for the perfect game in horseshoes or bowling (which he did bowl a perfect game) or to catch the biggest or most fish, he was driven to win. Even in later years, when his health was failing, he loved to compete with his family playing the Wii.
Bennie was the “fixer” in the family. He loved working on cars with his son and nephews. He was a jack of all trades and could fix anything. He was the caretaker of his family. He loved fiercely and quietly. Words were never easy for him and he showed his love in actions.
He had many accomplishments. He was married to and loved the same woman for 57 years. While working at Cranston Printworks he was an active member in the union. Yet, if you were to ask him, he would say his greatest pride was his children and grandchildren.
Bennie was a wonderful storyteller and loved to laugh. He was a prankster and lived to play practical jokes. He had an infectious laugh and a smile that will be missed. He was a one of a kind that will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.
Services will be private.
Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children Processing Center P.O. Box 863765 Orlando, Fl. 32886.
