Betty Lyles

Betty Haynes Lyles, 82, of Spindale, died Sunday, October 16, 2016 at Oakland Living Center. A native of Cliffside, she was the daughter of the late Sam and Etta Pruett Haynes. Betty taught English for 30 years and retired from her beloved RS Central High School. After retirement, she and Raymond enjoyed traveling the United States and Europe. Betty was a member of Spencer Baptist Church. She participated with Spencer Serving Seniors and Kappa Kappa Iotta sorority. Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 63 years, Raymond Lyles of Spindale; daughter Lynn Smothers and husband Bill of Spindale; granddaughter Betsy Reckerd and husband Geoff of Charlotte; step grandchildren Luke Smothers and wife Allison, Maggie Flynn and Lillian McBrayer; seven great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 3PM Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at Spencer Baptist Church with Rev. Bruce Caldwell and Rev, Billy Vaughn officiating. Interment will follow in Eternal Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the Family Life Center of the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Spencer Baptist Church, 207 N. Oak Street, Spindale, NC 28160.
