BILLY FLYNN BRIDGES Billy Flynn Bridges, 78, was transferred to his heavenly home on Saturday, November 26, 2011. Billy was born first on July 9, 1933, and secondly in September of l941. Billy was predeceased by his parents, Oscar and Corene Bridges. Others who predeceased him were his brother Wayne and a grandson Buddy. Survivors include his wife Peggy, of Rutherfordton, his daughter, Tressa Corbett of Hampton, VA, his son Mark Bridges of Newport News VA, and his son Morgan Bridges of Rutherfordton. He is survived by his brother Bobby Bridges of Rutherfordton. Also surviving are a stepson, John Stallings and a stepdaughter, Stacy Froyen. Billy was a civil engineer, educated in the Rutherford County Schools and later graduated with a BS degree in civil engineering from NC State University, Raleigh, NC. His career of 33 years was spent at the Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company, working in design, cost engineering, and contracts. After retiring in the 1980s, Billy and family moved back to his hometown of Rutherfordton, establishing his residence at 170 Skyview Ridge. During his retirement years, Billy enjoyed several jobs in the county. He last worked as a supervisor at the Bill’s Creek Convenience Center, where he passed away during his final workday. Billy was a devoted and faithful servant of God, exemplifying a Christian’s priorities in life: being in the Lord’s ministry, showing devotion and love for his family, and giving honor and respect to his country. He was an active member at Father’s Vineyard, serving on the board as an elder, being a leader in various intercessory prayer groups, and singing in the choir. Billy actively supported his community by serving as a board member for the Grace of God Rescue Mission in Forest City NC. Billy was a gifted and creative writer, having composed many uplifting, sometimes humorous poems for his family members and friends. He and his brother Bobby collaborated in writing several inspirational songs. Billy was truly positive and optimistic in his outlook on life. He delighted in being an edifier to his brothers and sisters in Christ. Visitation will be held at Crowe’s Mortuary on Wednesday, November 30, from 1:00 until 2:00. The service will follow at 2:00, led by Pastor Terry Howell, assisted by Roger Gosnell, Terry Hagaman, and Betty Ledbetter. Interment will be at the Piedmont Baptist Church cemetery.
