Bill Godfrey, precious husband, daddy, pawpaw and great pawpaw went to be with Jesus on September 27 after a gallant fight with cancer. He was member of Spencer Baptist Church, worked as an auto body repairman and owner of Bill’s Body Shop in Spindale and served nine years in the National Guard Reserve. Bill was preceded in death by first wife Nellie Godfrey, brothers Ray and Virgil Godfrey and a sister Virginia Jenkins
Surviving is his wife Maria Cortes Godfrey; a son Billy Godfrey and his wife Debbie of Edgewater, Fl.; their son Travis and daughter Megan; three daughters all of Rutherford County; Cynthia Yelton and husband Jerry, their three children Michael and wife Lauren, Connie Smith, James and wife Sherry. Chris Scism and husband Phil, their children Gidget and Johnny. Lynn and Ricky McCurry and daughter Danielle Cronk and husband John; step daughter Anita Henderson and husband Jonathan; great grandchildren; Jerry T. Yelton, William Yelton, Anna Yelton, Teddy Yelton, Jacob Smith, Ashley Hardin, Elizabeth Hardin, Cody Scism, Katelin Scism, Madison Cronk and Nathan Cronk; two sisters Mary Snyder Yelton and Martha Crenshaw.
Funeral services will be 3 PM Sunday at Spencer Baptist Church with Rev. Billy Vaughn, Rev. Tom (Joanne) Brooks, and Rev. Bill Kirk will officiate. The family will receive friends in the sanctuary of Spencer Baptist Church from 1-3 PM Sunday prior to the service. Interment will follow in Eternal Hills Memorial Park.
