Dorothy Draughon, 89, of Rutherfordton, died Monday, July 6, 2015 at Hospice House. A native of Mecklenburg County, she was the daughter of the late Charlie and Annabelle Helms Jarrell. She attended Dilworth Elementary, Alexander Graham Junior High, Central High School and graduated from The Women’s College of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and later received her Master’s of Art in Teaching from Converse College. She was a retired claims supervisor for the Employment Security Commission and a member of First United Methodist Church of Rutherfordton. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Diana Love of Asheville, Linda Lewis of Rutherfordton, Marie Poteat of Rutherfordton, and Wendy Jenkins of Spindale; grandchildren, Ricky Lewis Jr., Hayley Hoover, Mason Jenkins, Holly Jenkins, and Mary Poteat; great grandchild Madison Hoover; sisters Annabelle Jarrell and Patricia Stokes of Charlotte. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Richard K. Jarrell, William G. Jarrell, Charlie W. Jarrell and Jack Jarrell; three sisters, Rose Beasley, Ruth Jarrell and Mary Jane Wells. Memorial services will be held 11 AM, Friday July 10, 2015 at Crowe’s Mortuary with Rev. John Perry officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Rutherford County, Norris Public Library, Rutherfordton, or First United Methodist Friendship Club, Rutherfordton.
