Edith Toms

Edith Mae Toms was born March 13, 1927, to Weldon Benjamin and Corda Logan Toms in Rutherfordton, NC. Edith departed this life on Friday May 8, 2009. Edith was educated in North Carolina schools, graduating from New Hope High School. Edith professed her faith in Christ at an early age and joined Piney Ridge Methodist Church. When working in Massachusetts she became a member of The Historic Charles Street African Methodist Episcopal Church. Upon retiring she returned to NC and her home church Piney Ridge where she was a member of the usher board and attended faithfully until illness prevented. Edith was also a member of the Golden Rutherford Senior Citizen Club. Edith enjoyed cooking, gardening flowers, and was an avid traveler. Edith was preceded in death by her mother and father Benjamin and Corda Toms; brothers J.C., James, Jackson, and Robert Toms and sisters Bernice Smith and Amanda Blanton. Edith leaves cherished memoires to her beloved sister Doris (Johnnie) Smith, a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD 2 PM WEDNESDAY MAY 13, 2009 AT PINEY RIDGE CME CHURCH WITH VISITATION ONE HOUR PRIOR TO SERVICES. BURIAL WILL FOLLOW IN THE CHURCH CEMETERY.
