Gladys Henderson

Gladys Lucille Metcalf Henderson age 94, of Forest City, NC passed away on December 22nd 2018 at Henderson Care. Gladys was the wife of the late Elbert Henderson, and the daughter to the late Jacob Luther Metcalf and Daisy Bridges Metcalf. Gladys was the only girl among five brothers, and developed a quiet strength and steady nature that would be a trademark of her life. Gladys was a graduate of Mt. Vernon High School and Robinson's Business College. Gladys and Elbert Henderson were married on Christmas Eve in 1950, and were a blessing to each other and all who knew them. Together they had four sons. Gladys was known for her sweet spirit and endearing ability to laugh with you and at herself. Her faith was a strong focal point in her life. Gladys spent decades serving the children of Mount Vernon Baptist Church as a Sunday school teacher, many of which she co-taught with her dear friend Geneva Metcalf. Left to cherish her memory are sons Jim Henderson (Lisa); Alan Henderson (Sherry); John Henderson (Darla); daughter-in-law Lynn Henderson; grandchildren Erica, Ashley, Lauren, Katie, Ashton, Lindsay, William, Allie, and Cole; great grandchildren Braelyn, Corynn, Caroline, Bryce, and Collin; Brothers George and Sam Metcalf; In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her son David Henderson; and brothers Ed, Fred, and Carl Metcalf; Services will be held at Mount Vernon Baptist Church on Wednesday December 26th 2018 at 3:00PM, with Dr. Scott Courtney officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
