Jerry A. Martin of Forest City passed away on July 4, 2019. He was born August 16, 1940 to the late Logan and Maggie Martin in Spindale, NC. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son Jerry Martin, Jr. Jerry joined St. Paul AME Zion Church at an early age. He served in the church as a Sunday School Superintendent, and as a Pastor. He sang in the choir and was the kind of person who helped where needed. Jerry loved the Lord. He worked faithfully as a husband, father, brother and friend. He was a bus driver where he worked at East Rutherford High School for many years. The students that rode his bus said it best, "He was the best bus driver ever." He retired from East in 2002 with many awards and achievements. Jerry leaves behind his wife Carolyn of 24 years of marriage, and his first wife Minnie; his daughter, Marie Conley (Dean); his baby boy 1st Class Sgt Derrick Martin and his daughter Mechelle Henry Stevens; son Terry Martin, Jerry Jr.’s son, Jerry Freeman, a brother Herman Martin (Norma Jean). He is also survived by seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and other family members. A service is planned for Tuesday July 9, 2019 at Crowe’s Mortuary at 11AM. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The family would like to thank Hospice of the Carolina Foothills for the care Mr. Martin received.
