Johnsie Flynn

Johnsie Blackburn Flynn, 96, formerly of Lake Lure, died at The Laurels of Summit Ridge in Asheville on August 11, 2009. Born October 5, 1912 in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late George Pickney and Nora Elizabeth Blackburn. She was preceded in death by her husband of forty-eight years Franklin James Flynn and sisters Rose Schronce, Maude Smith and Mary Sites. She is survived by two children: Joe Flynn and wife Clym of Hickory, Peggy Flynn Hamrick of Flat Rock; four grandchildren, Stacy Flynn of Charlotte, Stefanie Reed of Greenville, SC, Ben Hamrick of Charlotte, Heather McCurry of Arden and six great grandchildren. Mrs. Flynn attended the Asheville Normal College for Teachers and graduated from Western Carolina University. She taught at Lake Lure School and Green Hill Elementary in Rutherford County. She also served as postal clerk in Chimney Rock for many years. Mrs. Flynn enjoyed a full and active life and positively touched all who knew her. Services will be held at Chimney Rock Baptist Church on Thursday August 13, 2009 at 2 PM with the family receiving friends one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made in her memory to Chimney Rock Baptist Church POB 157 Lake Lure, NC 28746.
