Obituary for Jordan Trent Morris

Jordan Morris sailed from this world into the next, sometime early Saturday morning June 6th, 2015 after a wonderful evening spent with good pals and livermush sandwiches. His departure was as unexpected as it was heartbreaking and he leaves behind many adoring loved ones and mutual enthusiasts of ocean liners as well.

Jordan was preceded in death by his brother, Patrick, who was surely there to greet him on the other side. He is survived by his loving mother Teresa Bright and husband Mike Bright, father Bill Morris, sister Meghan Morris, fiancé Alex Painter, and his hell cat Henry. Innumerable people from "small town friendly" and among his ship families across the globe will feel the gaping hole his absence leaves behind.

Jordan loved ocean liners from the time he figured out he could float stuff on water. The mysterious history surrounding shipwrecks and passenger liners was a passion that metamorphosed from a hobby to a career--teaching the lore in lessons to any who cared to listen and learn. In the past couple of years, Jordan dived headlong into working to save one of the world's only remaining liners and fastest of them all, SS United States and as a result became involved with the SS United States Conservancy and eventually stepped into the role he currently held as the Conservancy's Southeast Chapter chairman.

An accomplished chef, Jordan was self-taught. His culinary guests enjoyed his handy work on reproduction Titanic dishes. From haute cuisine to tomato sandwiches with Duke's Mayonnaise, his palette was refined, and tantalizing -- he enjoyed pairing dishes with the perfect cocktail.
His iconic and flawless sense of style, and more recent mirror shades and flat billed caps were always paired with that laugh--it rang just as sweet as the tunes he picked on his mandolin. His playful decadence was as irreverent as it was irresistible.

Through many incarnations of his life, Jordan was many things to many people. He was always a champion to the underdog, unapologetic, unafraid, and ever inclusive.
“Throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."
- Mark Twain
