Keith Hunter, Sr.

Keith Edward Hunter Sr of Rutherfordton, NC passed away at home August 17, 2013 at the age of 92. He was a native of San Jacinto, CA and preceded in death by his long time wife Elenora Jane Halverson (Hunter), daughter Debra Gasper and brother Kenneth Hunter. Keith was born in 1921 in Shattuck, OK and was a veteran of the Army/Air Corps during World War II. Keith and Elenora were married for almost 70 years, living in San Jacinto, CA until her death when Keith moved to North Carolina to be with his family. Keith was a jack of all trades, retiring in 1983 from General Dynamics. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and enjoyed traveling for years in their motor home all over the country. His favorite fishing spots were always in the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California. He remained very active, well into his 80’s serving as a deacon of his church and repair man for the elderly in his mobile home park. Keith Sr is survived by his son Keith Edward Hunter Jr and wife Ruby of Rutherfordton’ son James Hunter and wife Jeri of Temecula, CA; eight grandchildren Keith Paul Hunter, Carrie Boggs (Hunter), Angela Wilson (Hunter) of Rutherford County, NC, Bryan Hunter, Katherine Hunter of Temecula, CA, Jessica, Jayme, and Lauren Gasper of San Jacinto, CA; in addition he had fourteen great grandchildren. Keith had numerous friends throughout North Carolina, California, Washington and Colorado. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Saturday, August 24, 2013 at Crowe’s Mortuary. Military honors will be accorded by the Rutherford County Veteran’s Honor Guard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
