Lois Cole

Lois Robbins Cole age 83, a long-time resident of Bostic, NC died January 20, 2011 at Autumn Care in Forest City. She grew up in Harris and Forest City, graduated from Cool Springs High School and attended Converse College. Lois was predeceased by her parents Lee and Vada Robbins, her sister Jean Robbins Johnson, her brother Bruce Curtis Robbins (KIA – WWII) and her son-in-law Michael Liston Spratt. She worked for many years as a secretary, most recently at Bradley-Koone Motor Company in Forest City. An active member of First Baptist Church in Forest City, she had been church secretary, church librarian, choir member and Sunday School Teacher. After her retirement Lois delivered Meals on Wheels and was a volunteer tutor at Bostic Elementary School and East Rutherford Middle School. In addition to reading, music and needlework, Lois enjoyed working in her yard and garden. She was an animal enthusiast, always keeping dogs and cats as pets, as well as feeding the birds and tending to bluebird houses. She is survived by her daughter Diana Cole Spratt of Ellenboro and her son Larry Bruce Cole and his wife Debra Rose of Morganton, NC. She leaves behind three grandchildren – Jon Spratt of Nashville, TN, Jamey Spratt and wife Karen of Ellenboro and Betsy Spratt Guyer and husband Dustin of Forest City. Also six great-grandchildren Genevieve Spratt, Mattison Spratt, Cailyn Spratt, Liston Spratt, Aden Spratt and Owen Guyer. Also surviving are her sister Miriam Robbins Jackson and husband John of Forest City and sisters-in-law Helen Cole Krause of Forest City and Margaret Cole McGinnis of Kings Mountain. The family will receive friends in the parlor at First Baptist Church in Forest City from 1:00 until 2:00 PM on Saturday January 22, 2011. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM in the sanctuary with Dr. Barry Keys officiating. Cremains will be interred at Cool Springs Cemetery at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the Rutherford County Humane Society P.O. Box 998 Rutherfordton, NC or to any charity of the donor’s choice.
