Mrs. Marlene Lucille Cole Robbins age 78 of Big Island Road went home to be with The Lord on January 1, 2013 while being cared for at Mary Black Hospital in Spartanburg, SC. Marlene was born in Rutherford County, NC on December 31, 1934 and was preceded in death by her parents James Kelly Cole and Bessie Owens Cole. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband Charles William Robbins and one grandchild Tori Robbins. A loving mother to many as well as a faithful and loving wife, Marlene enjoyed attending church, playing the piano and spending time with family and friends. She was a member of Holly Springs Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for some 50 years and operated a nursery in her home for over 40 years. Left to cherish her memories are two sons: David Robbins and wife Martha; Kenneth Robbins and wife Sherry; one daughter – Beverly Whisnant and husband Jacob; one brother – Blaine Cole; one sister – Wanell Buff and husband Frank; grandchildren – Stephen Robbins and wife Angie, Paul Robbins and wife Jennifer, Leslie Robbins, Luke Robbins, Joel Robbins and wife Erica, Lori Robbins, Jonathan Whisnant and Justin Whisnant; four great grandchildren also survive as well as a number of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Thursday January 3, 2013 at Holly Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Wade Huntley and Rev. Danny Black officiating. Mrs. Robbins will lie in state thirty minutes prior to the service. Concluding services will be held in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 PM Wednesday January 2, 2013 at Holly Springs Baptist Church.
