Marvin Overcash, 80, of Fernwood Drive Rutherfordton, died Thursday, December 15, 2011 at Hospice House of Rutherford County. A native of Iredell County, he was the son of the late Marvin Overcash, Sr and Lutelle Collins Overcash. Marvin was a member of First United Methodist Church, Rutherfordton and a member of Western Star Lodge #91. He was a graduate of Western Carolina University. Marvin was a retired teacher and coach for Rutherford County Schools. After his illness forced him to retire, he developed a love for woodworking. He made beautiful furniture for his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Wray Overcash of the home; son Thad Overcash and wife Meloney of Rutherfordton; and two nieces, Dr. Sylvia Campbell of Arlington, VA and Robin Penor of Birmingham, AL. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Davies Overcash and a sister Betty Yocum. Funeral services will be held 2PM Sunday at First United Methodist Church, Rutherfordton with Dr. Jack Knoespel officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 5 until 7 PM at Crowe’s Mortuary.
