Mildred Roper

Mildred Ruth Smith Roper, age86, of Rutherfordton passed on to her heavenly reward on Tuesday June 12 while being cared for at Rutherford Regional Medical Center. Ruth was a native of Rutherford County, the widow of the late Charles Hoyle Roper and daughter of the late Major George Smith and Bertha Melton Smith. Those left to cherish her memory include her son Marty (Melissa) Roper and granddaughter Lillian of Greenville, SC, daughter Tammy (Bobby) Dailey and granddaughter Ginger of Spartanburg; brother Clyde Smith and sister Corene McDaniel; half/brothers, Dewey, Harold, Morris, J.B. and Clay Smith; half/sister Doris Elliott. In addition to her husband and parents Ruth was preceded in death by her brothers Eldon, James and Oliver Smith; sister Blanche Brock and half/brother Max Smith. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 PM Saturday at Mt. Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Kenneth Brock, Rev. Charles McClure and Rev. Eric Reedy officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1-3 PM Saturday prior to the service. A memorial service will be held at 6:30 Sunday at Word of Faith Fellowship in Spindale.
