Paul J. Nanney, 85 of Union Mills, passed away Saturday, June 21, 2014 at the Rose Hill Retirement Center in Marion. He was born on January 9, 1929, the son of the late Reginald Nanney and Clara Blankenship Nanney. He retired after 37 years from the NC Dept. of Transportation of McDowell County and was a lifelong member of Thermal City Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Juanita Dowdle Nanney and an infant son. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Arledge Nanney. Three sons, Lloyd and wife Mary Page Nanney, Bruce Nanney and wife Ava, and Alan Nanney, all of Union Mills, One stepdaughter, Donna Arledge of Gray Court, SC and one stepson, Les Arledge of Columbus, Ohio. Also one granddaughter, Joyce Nanney Phipps and husband, Mitch, and one great grandson, Grayson Phipps of Winston Salem. One sister, Ruby Nanney Anglin of Nebo. Two brothers, Wade Nanney of Nebo and Dean Nanney of Asheville. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at 3 pm at Thermal City Methodist Church with the Rev. Cindy Nanney officiating. Interment will be at Round Hill Baptist Church cemetery in Union Mills. Memorials may be made to Thermal City Methodist Church in Union Mills.
