Reba Pate

Reba Scoggin Pate age 96 of Spindale, NC passed away early Monday December 29, 2014 after a brief illness. Mrs Pate was born in Rutherford County April 25, 1918 to the late Alda Culbreth Scoggin and Samuel Boyce Scoggin. She was married to the late George W. Pate who preceded her in death in 1999. At her death she was the oldest member of Spencer Baptist Church in Spindale, NC. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters. She worked for many years at Smith Drugs in Rutherfordton, NC and later at Spindale Drug Company where she was well known for her delicious sandwiches. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon & Ed Hill of Marion, NC and a number of beloved nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren, step great grandchildren and step great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday January 1, 2015 at 11 AM at Spencer Baptist Church with Rev. Bruce Caldwell, Rev. Billy Vaughn and Rev. R.N. Hardin officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 – 11 AM Thursday January 1, 2015 in the Family Life Center of Spencer Baptist Church. Concluding services will take place in Spindale City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Spencer Baptist Church Building Fund 187 N. Oak Street Spindale NC 28160 or Hospice of Rutherford County P.O. Box 336 Forest City NC 28043.
