Rosa Mae Nelon Owensby 73, of Lake Lure died Sunday May 1, 2011 at Hendersonville Health & Rehab in Hendersonville, NC after a long illness. A native of Rutherford County, she was the daughter of the late Rufus W. Nelon and Annie Mae Conner Nelon. She was a member of Cane Creek Baptist where she was a former choir leader. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband Rev. Henry Owensby, five brothers; Ernest, Edward, Richard, Claude, and Sidney Nelon, two sisters; Pauline Dotson and Geneva Wilson. Survivors include two sons Dennis and wife Betty Jo, and Melvin and wife Judy Owensby of Lake Lure, two daughters Janice Harris and husband Mike of Sunny View and Beth Flack and husband Keith of Shingle Hollow; one brother Wade Nelon of Lake Lure; three sisters Myrtle Searcy of Asheville, Sarah Lawter of Bat Cave and Mary Jane Melton of Lake Lure; six grandchildren and two step grandchildren; three great grandchildren and three step great grandchildren. The body will be at the home, 234 Nelon Road in Lake Lure, on May 3, 2011 where the family will receive friends. Services will be held Wednesday May 4, 2011 at 2 PM at Cane Creek Baptist Church with the Revs. Ansel Pace, Robert Orr, and Paul Nelon officiating. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
