Sidney Ervin Nelon age 84 of Lake Lure, NC died Saturday at Rutherford Hospital. He was a native of Rutherford County, former owner of Nelon Hardware, former town councilman for Lake Lure, bull dozer operator, avid outdoorsman and member of Cane Creek Missionary Baptist Church. Sidney was preceded in death by his wife Hazel Rickman Nelon, son Sidney G. Nelon, and parents Rufus and Annie Mae Nix Nelon, grandson Jeff Nelon; brothers Claude, Ernest, Richard and Edward Nelon; sister Pauline Dotson. Surviving are daughters Linda Nelon and Wanda Respess and her husband Danny of Lake Lure; brother Wade Nelon of Lake Lure; sisters Rosie Owensby of Lake Lure, Geneva Wilson of Rutherfordton, Sarah Lawter of Bat Cave, Jane Melton of Lake Lure and Myrtle Searcy of Asheville; Grandchildren Robert Nelon of Forest City, Steve (Catherine) Nelon of Inman, Lynn Haynes (Jeff) Porter of Morristown, Tn, Ann Nelon (Brian) Lawter of Rutherfordton; great grandchildren Scott and Dillon Nelon of Forest City, Tucker Nelon of Inman, Kristy and Kerri Porter of Morristown, Tn., Josh Hicks, Jessica Nelson, Jerimiah and Jacob Lawter of Rutherfordton. Services will be held at 2 PM Wednesday at Cane Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Lake Lure with Rev Jeff Porter and Rev Ansel Pace officiating burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6-8 PM at Cane Creek Missionary Baptist Church. Crowes Mortuary & Crematory are assisting the Nelon Family.
