Anita Diane Lackey Moten of Charlotte, NC was born July 9, 1959 in Statesville, NC to the late William “Billy” and Peggy Lackey. She departed this life Saturday, June 1, 2019 at Novant Presbyterian Main Hospital in Charlotte following an extended illness. Mrs. Moten was a graduate of West Iredell High School and lived in Statesville for many years before relocating to Charlotte. A former employee of Hunt Bienfangfor 25 years, she also worked as a before and after school assistant with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools prior to her illness. Her husband of 38 years, Ronney Lee Moten, Jr. of Charlotte, survives. In addition to her father, William “Billy” Lackey, she was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents J.B. and Emily K. Brown, paternal grandparents, Marshall “Shorty” Rankins, Sr. and Inez Lackey Lyons, uncles James “Jimmy” Brown and Rayfield Brown, aunts Corella B. (Milton) Evans, Martha Flowers, and Frances Keaton Williams. In addition to her husband, Ronney Lee Moten, Jr., she leaves to cherish the memory of her life, her mother, Peggy B. Lackey of Charlotte, two sons, Ronnie Lee (Kristy) Moten, III and Maurice Moten, both of Charlotte, a a daughter, LaToya Lackey (Darrell) Peterson of Statesville, brothers, William Perry (Linda) Lackey of Statesville, Derek “Derky” (Shirley) Lackey of Augusta, GA, Sidney (Renric) Lackey and Ryan Jones, both of Charlotte, sisters, Saleema Adele Shakir of Charlotte and Pamela (Anthony) Foust of Knightdale, NC, eight grandchildren, Mason, Maya, and Madelyne Moten of Charlotte, Zyan Bozeman, Jaylen, and Nahla Moten of Wilmington, NC, and Corban Johnson and Londyn Peterson of Statesville, an uncle, Joe Baker (Cassandra) Brown of Stone Mountain, GA, a special “son,” Bruce Johnson, and “daughter,” Tiffany Johnson, and devoted friends Diane Mayberry and Ella Booker, cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends. Anita had many hobbies, including making pillows, quilts and blankets that she often shared with family and friends. She enjoyed family vacations, especially traveling by bus for family reunions. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and niece, who often served as a babysitter, caregiver, and companion. She will be missed. Celebration of Life Service will be conducted Thursday, June 6, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. at Christ Cathedral of Deliverance. Apostle Carl D. Lykes will officiate, Bishop Darius Hopkins will eulogize and burial will follow in the Iredell Memorial Parks. Mrs. Moten will remain at Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home until taken to the church to lie in state at 11:30 a.m. Members of the family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m., but will assemble at the residence of her daughter, LaToya Lackey (Darrell) Peterson, 106 Summer Breeze Court, Statesville, N. C. at other times.
