Clara Elizabeth Cowan

Mrs. Clara Elizabeth Davidson Cowan, 83, of 488 Mocksville Highway, Statesville, passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2015, at Maple Leaf Health Care following an extended illness. She was born in Iredell County on February 23, 1932 and was the daughter of the late Claude M. Davidson, Sr. and Sally Ann Davis Davidson. She was preceded in death by her husband of thirty-nine years, Mr. Thurmon Leroy Cowan who died on December 10, 2013. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by two children, Joseph Nathaniel Davidson and Bobby Davidson, a grandson, Lee Green, three brothers, Claude (Nanetta) Davidson, Frank Davidson, and Fred Davidson; and four sisters, Julia (John) Jones, Louise (Harold) Dobbins, Estelle Harrison and Effie Smith. She attended the Iredell County Schools and was a member of Scott Chapel United Methodist Church where she directed both the Adult and Youth Choirs. She worked for Davis Hospital for forty-five years where she retired. She leaves to cherish the memory of her life, four children, Peggy (Larry) Williams, Charles (Margaret) Davidson, Joey (Teresa) Davidson and Donnie (Melissa) Davidson, all of Statesville; one sister, Azalee Brown of Statesville; one sister-in-law, Mary Davidson of Statesville; one brother-in-law, J. C. Harrison of Statesville; twenty grandchildren, thirty-four great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, church family and dear friends. Celebration of Life Services will be conducted Saturday, September 12, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. at Miracle Faith Towers. Pastor Charles Davidson is Pastor, Minister Yashica Long will officiate and Minister Ricky Swilling will eulogize. Burial will follow in the Iredell Memorial Park. Mrs. Cowan will remain at Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home until taken to the church to lie in state at 11:30 a.m. Members of the family will receive friends at the church from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m., but will assemble at the residence at other times.
