Clayton Tatum

Mr. Clayton Tatum, 97, of 2567 Hickory Highway, entered into eternal rest at the Gordon Hospice House on Monday, May 4, 2015. He was born in Iredell County on December 18, 1917, and was the son of the late Fred Allen Tatum, Sr., and Mary Alice Reid Tatum. He was married to Margaret Elizabeth Mayberry Tatum, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Leander Tatum, Thomas Tatum, Leroy Tatum, and John Tatum. Mr. Clayton attended the Iredell County School System, and a was faithful member of Logan Presbyterian Church, where he served faithfully as an Elder, past Sunday School Superintendent, past president of the Men’s Council and Men’s Choir. He was also very active in the community, at one time serving as president of the Mt. Camel Masonsic Lodge, the Unity High School PTA, Boy Scout Troop #158, was a life member of the NAACP, and a WWII Veteran, serving our country in the United States Army. He worked for the Railroad Company, JC Steele & Sons, and LR Wooten Construction Company. He leaves to cherish and celebrate the memory of his life, three sons, Jerry (Claudia) Tatum of Piedmont, SC, Ronald (Jackie) Tatum of Chesapeake, VA., and Phillip (Sylvia) Tatum of Statesville; six daughters, Andrea Mallard, Elaine (Lee) Woods, Michelle (George) Walker, Jr., and Jaqueline (John) Scott, all of Statesville, Kimberly Tatum of the home and Ronda Tatum of Winston-Salem; a brother, Fred (Vada) Tatum of Statesville; three sisters-in-law, Bessie Tatum, Annie Tatum, and Frances Mayberry, all of Statesville; a god daughter, Dorothy Minz; eighteen grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; special friends, Nate & Geraldine Dalton, Lonnie Wooten, Tom Watt and Clyde Houpe, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, other relatives and friends. Celebration of Life Services will be conducted Saturday, May 9, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. at Logan Presbyterian Church, USA. Dr. Reverend Samuel Stevenson will eulogize and burial will follow at the church Cemetery. Mr. Clayton will remain at Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home until taken to the church to lie in state at 11:30 a.m Saturday, May 9, 2015. Members of the family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:00 p.m., one hour prior to the funeral service. The family will assemble at the residence at all other times
