Cornelia Mae Steele

<p>Mrs. Cornelia Mae Coulter Steele, 95, of 324 North Lackey Street, Statesville, passed away at her residence on Sunday morning, November 12, 2017, following an extended illness. She was born in Catawba County on March 31, 1922, and was the daughter of the late Lonnie Mayfield Coulter and Mae Leeann Derr Coulter. She was married to George William Steele, who preceded her in death. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was also preceded in death by two sons, Sammy Lee Steele and Nelson Eugene Steele; two brothers, Cleo Coulter and Sidney Coulter and two sisters, Brandy Gibson and Zilpha McCorkle.</p><p>She attended the Catawba County Schools and prior to her retirement was employed by Sloans Cleaners as a Presser. She was a member of Holy Visions Church where she was the Mother of the Church.</p><p>She leaves to remember her life, one son, George Rufus (Elizabeth) Steele of Hickory; three daughters, Brenda Kay Steele and Precenia Lynn Steele, both of Statesville and Connie S. Parks of the home; eleven grandchildren, Cameo Steele, Devin Gray, Johnna Jones, Rickie Jones, Vernon (Rhonda) Peele, Tracy Peele, Clarence (Missy) Peele, Quinton (Tonya) Steele, Shawanna Steele, Tomika Steele and Theodore Steele; a special friend, Maggie Bailey of Statesville; a devoted nurse, Zindarsky Matheson of Statesville; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.</p><p>Celebration of Life Services will be conducted Thursday, November 16, 2017, at 6:00 p.m. at The Mary B. Bigham Memorial Chapel of Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home. Pastor Michael Turner will officiate. Members of the family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Thursday, prior to the funeral hour, but will assemble at the residence at other times.
