Ms. Donna Victoria Sturghill, beloved daughter of Dorothy Grimes Sturghill and the late Cordell Sturghill, was born in Iredell County on January 19, 1960. She peacefully entered into eternal rest on, Friday, March 9, 2018 at Iredell Memorial Hospital. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Constance "Conkie" Dalphine Sturghill Parker.


She was a 1978 graduate of Statesville High School and a graduate of Mitchell Community College. At the time of her death, she was employed by Piedmont Health Care as a Phlebotomist. She was a faithful, lifelong member of Holsey Memorial CME Church, Statesville where she served as the Church Secretary, Missionary Board, Choir Member, Evangelism Board member, avid Bible Study participant, and a Steward's Board member. She was the Quarterly Conference Secretary for Holsey Memorial CME Church Winston-Salem/Greenville District. She was a former member of the American Legion Auxiliary and former President of the Essence Women's Club. She was an inspiration to all who interacted with her and will be missed.

She was a loving person who loved to shop, eat out, fellowship with family and friends, and complete crossword puzzles.

She leaves to cherish the memory of her life in addition to her mother, Dorothy Sturghill of the home; two brothers, Gary (Gail) Sturghill of Charlotte, and Todd Sturghill of Statesville; three sisters, Kathy Grimes, Sheila (Reginald) Tatum, and Robin Sturghill all of Statesville; three uncles, Jay (Geraldine) Grimes, Bobby Grimes both of Statesville, and Joe (Brenda) Grimes of Florence, SC; three nephews, Carlos Sturghill and Todd Sturghill, Jr. of Statesville, Larry Rivers of Seattle, Washington; four nieces, Shannon Grimes of Winston-Salem, Carmal Sturghill and Monique Dalton of Statesville, Octavia Rivers of Charlotte; great nephews: Javeon Jones, Chattney Dalton, Dailen Woods, Kamari Dalton, Zavion Torrence, Tahj Sturghill; great nieces: Daisyah Sturghill, Camiel Sturghill, Tyler Rivers, Drew Grimes, Marlee Rivers, Justice Sturghill; special cousin, Freddie Sturghill, special friend LaFreda McClelland; and a host of cousins, co-workers, neighbors, church family and friends.

Celebration of Life Services will be conducted Thursday, March 15, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. at Holsey Memorial CME Church. Reverend Barbara McCollum, Pastor, will officiate and burial will follow in the Belmont Cemetery. Ms. Sturghill will remain at Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home until taken to the church to lie in state at 11:30 a.m. Members of the family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m., but will assemble at the residence at other times.
