Mr. Jimmie Van Davidson, Sr., son of the late Thomas Roy and Annabell Lackey Davidson, was born in Iredell County on September 12, 1942. He departed this life on Tuesday, September 1, 2015, at Valley Nursing Facility where he was a resident.
Jimmie was a graduate of Unity High School and served in the U. S. Army receiving an honorable discharge. As a child, he attended Zion Wesley AME Zion Church in Troutman. In addition to his parents, Jimmie was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas Roy Davidson, Jr. and Roy Lee Davidson, and a sister Emma Jean Campbell.
He leaves to cherish the memory of his life, his wife, Julia McClelland Davidson of the home; his son, Jimmie Van Davidson, Jr., of Charlotte; his step-children, Marva (Solomon) Jackson and Tony Houpe, both of Statesville; a brother, Larry Davidson of Troutman; two sisters, Barbara Sue Davidson and Val (Otis) Oglesby, both of Troutman; eight grandsons, Ezerette, Rodtravious, Brandon, Jimmie Van III, Jermichael, Jeconiah, and Jaylan; a granddaughter, Dejah, all of Charlotte; grandsons, Jamad Houpe and Tariq Clement, both of Statesville; a granddaughter, Genesis Houpe of Statesville; four great grandchildren, Ethan, Lukus, Carter, and Kayden, all of Statesville and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, neighbors and dear friends.
Day is done, gone the sun,
From the lake, from the hills, from the sky;
All is well, safely rest, God is nigh.

Celebration of Life Services will be conducted Monday morning, September 14, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home. Bishop Sam Thomas will officiate and burial will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the National Cemetery in Salisbury with military rites being performed by the Rowan County Veterans Service Council.
Members of the family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:30 until 11:00 a.m., but will assemble at the residence at other times.
