John Powell

As the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion: for there the Lord commanded the blessing, even life for evermore. ~Psalm 133:3 Mr. John Henry Powell, 75, was born in Catawba County on August 8, 1943, and was the son of the late Elijah Lee Powell and Mary Amy Baker Powell. He departed thid life on Friday, June 14, 2019, at the Gordon Hospice House, Statesville following an extended illness. John was married to Gail Linney Powell who survives. John was a member of First Baptist Church, a member of Mt. Carmel Masonic Lodge # 37, and Joseph Evans Consistory #280. He worked in the shipping department at MDI and Bruard Funiture Company. In addition to his wife, Gail Linney Powell, he is survived by four daughters, Sherrie (John) Kilpatrick of Clemson, S.C., Mary Watson, Seneca, S.C., Quilla Raley, Concord, N.C., and Cynthia (William) Caldwell, of Catawba, N.C.; Elijah Powell, Margaret James, and Pauline Williams, all of Hickory N.C.; four brothers in law, John Linney, Isaac Stockton, Tim (Betty) Watson, Leon (Beth) Pearson, all of Statesville; Carolyn Powell, of Statesville, Anita Linney, of Harmony, Glenda Wasson of Statesville , and Dehaven Reeves of Durham; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. A celebration of life service will be conducted on Thursday, June 20, 2019, at First Baptist Church at 1:00 p.m.. The family will receive friends from 12:30 -1:00 pm, at the church and burial will follow in the Belmont Cemetery. Reverend J.W. Brunson will officiate.
