John Ransom Redmon, I

Mr. John Ransom Redmon, I., affectionately called "Dr. John", son of the late Enos and Elvie Lackey Redmon, was born in Iredell County on September 3, 1951. He peacefully entered into eternal rest on Friday, June 18, 2010. He was married to Teresa Connor Redmon, who survives.<br><br>John was a 1969 graduate of North Iredell High School, and was honorably discharged from the US Army. Until his health failed, John was employed by Iredell County as a Transfer Station Attendant.<br><br>When his church, Mt. Nebo, was reconstructed, in March, 1996, John wired it for sound, and became the first Video/Audio Technician for the church. Each and every Sunday, John was in his Audio Room, playing music until the service started, and after the service started, he recorded every word said and every song sung. He made sure all the sick and shut-in got copies of the Morning Service. While he was doing all this, he made sure all the micorphones were working properly. When the Mighty Men's Choir was formed, fifteen years ago, John was elected president, and remained president until his death; last singing with these men on the fifth Sunday in May. John was a real entrepreneur. He owned his own business, Sound Reinforcements, installing and repairing sound systems in churches, restaurants, schools, and clubs, thoughout the county. John attended the Carolina School of Broadcasting, Charlotte, and received a 3rd Class Radio Broadcasting License. He used this training to become a Disc Jockey, and was known as "Dr. John." He spun records for parties, reunions and weddings. His business card read, "The Doctor Makes House Calls". John had the "Gift of Gab". He could talk you into anything, or out of anything. If he had it, and you wanted it, he would sell it to you. He loved his wife, his sons, his only grandchild, he lovingly referred to as "Pookie", and his family, and his church. He never met a stranger and was loved by all. John had a passion for fishing. He knew where every body of water was in Iredell County.<br>Survivors, in addition to his wife, Teresa, whom he lovingly called "Pugg", include two sons, Carl Anthony (Candris) Redmon and John Ransom "JR" Redmon, II; a granddaughter, Cateria Redmon; a step granddaughter, Aaliyah Odom; four brothers, Harry (Ona Lee) Redmon, Robert (Ruthie) Redmon, James A. (Annie) Redmon and Enos (Sharon) Redmon; five sisters, C. Lauree Redmon, Beatrice (James) Dalton, Dorothy (Clarence) Steele, Sandra Houston, and Mary Lois Steele; god-children, Brandon Baker and Joshua Davidson; sisters-in-law, Malinda Woods, Kathy Connor, Shay Conner, Sandra Wellman and Judy Taylor; brothers-in-law, Ronnie (Betty) Conner, and Brennan (Teresa) Conner; special friends, Michael and Jessica Davidson and Norman and Priscilla Dudley; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.<br>
