Joseph Nixon

1 Thessalonians 4:14 " For if we believe the Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him" Joseph Eugene Nixon, 78, of 406 South Green Street, was born in Mecklenburg County on August 24, 1941, and was the son of the late Theodore Lee Nixon, Jr. and Clorine Janice Morrison. He was united in marriage to Brenda Blackwell Nixon, who survives. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Sidney Morrison, Sr. and a sister-in-law, Shirley A. Blackwell. He attended Unity High School and served with the United States Army where he was honorably discharged. He was once employed by Southern Screw where he retired and was also employed by East Elementary School. At an early age he joined Clark’s Chapel Baptist Church. In addition to his loving and devoted wife, Brenda B. Nixon of the home; he leaves to cherish the memory of his life, three sons, Markus Donte (Natasha) Nixon and Charles William Blackwell, both of Statesville and Danny Blackwell of Florida; his siblings, Weldon (Carolyn) Miller of Charlotte, Dennis (Myra) Parker of Pennsylvania, Cynthia (Wesley) Summers and Randy Lee (Doris) Morrison, Sr. both of Statesville; his in-laws, Phyllis (Joe) Johnson, Robin Viola Blackwell, Deborah Denise Blackwell, and Robert Randolph Blackwell, all of Statesville, Todd Lanell Blackwell of Winston-Salem and Donald Lee (Betty) Blackwell of Troutman; grandchildren, Amanda Wilson, Charles Blackwell, Jr., Joseph Donte Nixon and Anyah Bre’nee Nixon; five great grandchildren, Malik Blackwell, Savonna Camp, Amari Wilson, Daniel Miller and Alivia Wilson; aunts, Ethel P. Morrison, Anna Morrison, Joan Millsaps Morrison, JoCarolyn Morrison, Annie Smith Morrison, and Magnolia Peters; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Celebration of Life Services will be conducted Wednesday, October 2, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. at The Mary B. Bigham Memorial Chapel of Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home. Reverend James Williams will with burial to follow in the Iredell Memorial Park. Mr. Nixon will remain at Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home where members of the family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m., but will assemble at the residence at other times.
