In tears we saw you sinking, and watched you fade away

Our hearts were almost broken, because we wanted you to stay

But when we saw you sleeping, so peacefully and free from pain

How could we wish you back with us, to suffer that again

It breaks our hearts to lose you, but you do not go alone

For part of us went with you, the day God called you home.

Grandma

The years turned her hair grey and took away her sight,

Bun never dulled her love for me or diminished her bright light,

My heart is breaking as I recall memories one after another,

For she was all and everything and raised me as a mother,

She loved her Lord and her church , music and the preaching of His word,

The smell of southern Sunday cooking,

she swayed to the gospel tunes we heard,

She taught me the Bible and raised to me to be

in spite of my hurts a Godly man,

Whenever I fell or made some bad mistakes,

she’d pray over me and lift me back up by her hand,

Her faith in God and me is what she made sure I’d always understand,

She showered me with love and kindness lined everything she did for me,

Her praising, her cooking, her discipline ,

her life lesson were all done lovingly,

And even as she grew older and her health began to weaken and fail,

She’d always hold me accountable and tell me a wise ole story or tale,

Just so I wouldn’t forget where I come from and where I still needed to go,

When sorrow struck my life she stood beside me for me to lean on her so,

She celebrated my marriage and loved on my beautiful wife,

Hugged and kissed each great grandchild I brought into her life,

Filling them with the same light she had given me all the days,

Telling them the stories of old so they could remember her loving ways,

I can’t remember a time that she wasn’t there no matter what for me,

I can’t now imagine how I will get through this loss or how my life will be,

I know she has her sight back and she is healed and praising her Lord,

She is hugging on my momma and all those gone before her that she adored,

I know she is watching over like she’s always done for me,

She has her beautiful light and from worries, heartache and pain she is free,

Now I have to find my own way each day as we are so far apart,

Even tho I am broken, I have her love stitched throughout my life and heart,

The skies are full right now with the darkest sorrow filled clouds,

But I promise you my precious

grandma I will live everyday of my life to make you proud!

Love, Troy Joyner
