Mary Lois Griffin Dalton, 1602 Wedgedale Avenue, Statesville, was born in Iredell County on July 1, 1926. She was the daughter of the late John Henry Griffin and Willie Mae Holmes Griffin. She departed this life on Thursday, August 15, 2019, at the Gordon Hospice House in Statesville following an extended illness. She was a graduate of Morningside High School and was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death two children, William Griffin and Kay Frances Dalton. She leaves to cherish the memory of her life, three children, Betty Dalton Moore, Sarah Dalton Russell and James Leonard (Sarah Elaine) Dalton, all of Statesville; a brother-in-law, Ed Holbrook of Statesville; an honorary daughter, Barbara Eckles of Statesville; grandchildren, Michelle Murdock, Nicole Ferguson, Phillip Lee Jones, Jr., Bryant Jones, Theodore Dalton, Rashid Russell, Gene Russell, Jr., Marcus Dalton, Christopher Dalton, William Griffin, II, Kenneth Dalton and Eric Dalton; a host of great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, the First Baptist Church Family, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and dear friends. Celebration of Life Services will be conducted Tuesday, August 20, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. at The First Baptist Church on Garfield Street. Rev. J. W. Brunson will officiate. Mrs. Dalton will remain at Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home until taken to the church to lie in state at 12:00 noon. Members of the family will receive friends at the church from 12:30 noon until 1:00 p.m., but will assemble at the residence at other times.
