Mildred Sloan

Mrs. Mildred Gertrude Morrison Sloan, daughter of the late Dump Morrison and Ida Reid Morrison, was born in Iredell County on September 11, 1927. She departed this life on Thursday, February 12, 2015. Mrs. Sloan attended Iredell County Schools and was a lifelong member of Clark’s Chapel Baptist Church where she served faithfully on the Senior Choir. She was employed in early years by Home Made Chair Company and then by Hunt Manufacturing where she retired from in 1991. She was married to Curtis Glenn Sloan, who preceded her in death, as well as a son, Curtis Sloan, Jr. and a daughter, Mary Alice Sloan. She was also preceded in death by four sisters, Margaret Morrison, Willie M. Watts, Virginia McGirt, Mary Catherine Carruth, and three brothers, Pearl Morrison, Billy Ray Morrison and James E. Morrison, Sr. She leaves to cherish the memory of her life, a daughter, Melvina Sloan Ijames of Statesville; a god daughter, Minnie Ijames Scott of Winston-Salem; one brother, Max Morrison of Statesville; three sisters, Frances Mayfield, Eddie Bell Grant, and JoAnn (James) Ramsey, all of Statesville; four sisters-in-law, Charlene Houston and Katie Sloan, both of Mooresville; Annie Ramsey and Ethel Sloan, both of Statesville; two grandsons, Mark A. Ijames of Charlotte and Sheldon Sloan of Statesville; one granddaughter, Christy Sloan of Statesville; six great grandchildren, Kelle Parker, Kishon Ijames, Daquan Sloan, Christopher Sloan, Haley Davidson, and Kourtney Daniels; two great great grandchildren, Kyriana N. Parker and Aria K. Ijames; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Celebration of Life Services will be conducted Monday, February 16, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. at Clark's Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Dietrich A. M. Danner will officiate and burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. Mrs. Sloan will remain at Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home until taken to the church to lie in state at 11:30 a.m. Members of the family will receive friends at the church from 12:00 until 1:00 p.m., but will assemble at the residence of her daughter, Carolina Avenue North, Statesville, at other times.
