Nellie Houston Obituary

Mrs. Nellie Janetta Feimster Houston, 90, of 2225 Amity Hill Road, Cleveland, passed away on Tuesday, January 8, 2013, at Rowan Regional Medical Center in Salisbury following an extended illness. She was born in Iredell County on January 2, 1923, and was the daughter of the late Evette and Neppie Smith Feimster. She was married to Rev. Maxie L. Houston, who preceded her in death. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Charles Bernard Houston; and siblings, Ernest Feimster, Frank Feimster, Howard Feimster, James Feimster, Ozella Kimbrough, Elizabeth Kimbrough and Margaret Cauthen.
She was a graduate of Morningside High School and Cosmetology School. She was a licensed beautician was a member of the Progressive Beautician’s Association and The N. C. State and Cosmetology Association. Years ago, she was a cook at Frank’s Grill and was the owner and operator of a beauty salon for many years. She was a faithful member of Zion Wesley AME Zion Church.
She leaves to cherish the memory of her life a daughter, Sandra (Arthur) Hunt of Cleveland; a son, Maxie Lee Houston, Jr. of Troutman; one sister, Annie (Lewis) Feimster Wise of New Carrollton, Maryland; thirteen grandchildren; seventeen grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Celebration of Life Services will be conducted Saturday, January 12, 2013, at 12:00 p.m. at Zion Wesley AME Zion Church in Troutman. Rev. Bobbi Samuels will officiate and Rev. Rudolph Cornelius will eulogize. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Houston will remain at Rutledge and Bigham Mortuary, Statesville, until taken to the church to lie in state at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Members of the family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until 12:00 noon, but will assemble at the residence at other times. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Building Fund, Zion Wesley AME Zion Church, Zion Wesley Road, Troutman.
