Versie N. Wellman Obituary

Mrs. Versie Neal Templeton Wellman, was born on July 17, 1929 in Iredell County and was the daughter of the late George Carr and Lorene Templeton Luckey. She passed away at the Gordon Hospice House on Monday, October 12, 2015, following an extended illness. Versie retired after working many years at Troutman Shirt Company. She was a member of Clark's Chapel Baptist Church, where she enjoyed singing in the Senior Choir, attending Bible Study, and fellowship with members of the congregation. Versie attended Lincoln Hospital School of Nursing in Durham, NC. Her nursing experience naturally made her willing to aid sick family members and dear friends. She leaves to cherish the memory of her life her devoted husband, Mantheo Wellman of the home; her step-son: Terry Donnell Wellman of Chesapeake, Virginia; one step-daughter, Matoakee Wellman of Chesapeake, Virginia; one brother, Anthony Lucky of Troutman; two godchildren, Nathan Feimster of Troutman and Kristen Feimster of Greensboro; three nephews, Lonnie Mayberry of Troutman, Lonnie (Ruby) Wellman and Johnny Edward (Elizabeth) Wellman, both of Statesville; one niece, Sonya Lucky of Troutman; several cousins including, Brenda Eckles, Teresa Eckles and Martha Ann Eckles, all of Troutman; and a host of other relatives and friends. Our Tribute to Versie Wellman An Angel has passed away at 1:15 pm today. Her name is Versie Wellman. I have known her and Matt for 60 years, she took care of me as a baby and she is my second mom. Versie is a phenomenal woman. She helped mold me into the man that I am today. When I went away to NYC at an early age, she cried when I left. My mom always talked about Versie to me as I grew up. I could not wait until I met my 2nd mom again. I was the son she always wanted and never had... I felt in my heart if someone could care and love me as she did than I had to pay her back for loving and caring for me. I returned to North Carolina in 1977, I vowed to find her and repay her with the love she had given me. When that day came we hugged and I have never left her again. The day Versie took her last breath I was by her side along with Geraldine and Matt. I am so blessed, proud and honored to have been chosen to be in their lives, in the company of 2 angels. Two married souls that have been together almost as long as I am old. Versie and Matt have taught me so much, given me so much wisdom and showed me how true love should be between a husband and wife. I was so honored to be in their lives I had to share my 2 daughters with them, and Versie and Matt treated them as if they were their own. I could have not asked for better role models and have cherished all the years we have shared together. Kristen became her baby and spent more time with Matt and Versie than she did at home. At first I was kind of jealous but after thinking about it, I realized that they were great role models teaching my young girls. They always said they did not know what they would do without me... I always thought what would I do without them. I pray that everyone can have a loving couple that would take them under their wings and show them love, encouragement and be a mentor for the way we should live our lives. I am so blessed my daughters and I had the chance to share this experience. We Love you and will always love you Versie and Matt. In loving memory of Teia, Nathan (your godson) and (goddaughter) Kristen Feimster Celebration of Life Services will be conducted Saturday, October 17, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. at Clark's Chapel Baptist Church in Statesville.
