Wesley Gray

Mr. Wesley Norris Gray, 69, of 343 Raleigh Avenue, Statesville, passed away on Sunday, February 22, 2015, at The Gordon Hospice House following an extended illness. He was born in Iredell County on October 3, 1945, and was the son of the late Emma Alberta Adams Carlson. In addition to his mother, he was raised by Will and Josephine Rankin Gray, a son, Wesley Lance Dobson, a brother, Melvin “Shake” Adams and Mary Louise Adams. “Candy Man”, as he was affectionately called, was a 1964 graduate of Morningside High School and was self-employed for some time. He leaves to cherish the memory of his life, a son, Terry (Jill) Gray of Statesville; a daughter, Desley (Anthony) Smith of Statesville; one brother, Robert (Rev. Mary) Adams of Stafford, Virginia; special friends, John “Scoop” (Lola) Morrison of Conover; six grandchildren, Sharina Gray, Daija Smith, Kelvin McClure, Anthony Smith, Jr., Jamison Gray, Jason Gray; two great grandchildren, Elijah Smith and Briana Destain; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Celebration of Life Services will be conducted Thursday, February 26, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. at The Mary B. Bigham Memorial Chapel of Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Belmont Cemetery. Mr. Gray will remain at Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home where members of the family will assemble at prior to the service for visitation from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. Rutledge and Bigham is serving the Gray Family.
