David Martin

David E. Martin, 76 David E. Martin, 76, of Ashland passed away Sunday evening March 26, 2017 at Grant Hospital. David was born April 26, 1940 to Kenneth Martin and Shirley (Nelson) Martin. He moved to Ashland as a young boy. David graduated from Ashland High School in 1959. David is survived by his wife Grace Ann Sigler Martin to whom he was married for 55 years, a daughter Dr. Sheryl Budd, and dog Mollie. He is also survived by two brothers, George of Ashland, and Thomas (Irene) of Tiro, as well as a sister, Linda Gilbert of Mansfield. He was preceded in death by two sons David Royal and David Edward, his parents, his in-laws Mr. and Mrs. Royal Sigler, brother Jeffrey (Cindy) Martin, and sister Jonnie Schaeg. David worked at Hyco for 23 years. He worked as a shop foreman and later as a project engineer. He then began his second career at the Ashland County Sheriff’s Department, starting as road deputy, then detective, and finally as Captain of Communications, 911 Director. He served 23 years at the Sheriff’s Department. David had many hobbies and activities. He was a pitcher for the Steiner’s Mobile Fastpitch softball team for many years. He was an avid trap and skeet shooter, winning many Perfect Round patches. He once shot a bear in Maine and turned it into a bear skin rug. He and his wife were active in the Gold Wing Road Riders Association, organizing the first Teddy Bear Run, and numerous other events with the club. They traveled through 43 states on their Goldwing. After retirement, they spent many years traveling in their motorhome, working at Army Corps of Engineer Parks in the Carolinas. David was a long time member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Graveside services will be held, Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the Ashland Cemetery with Reverend Karen Liddy and Reverend Eric Riesen officiating. For those who will be attending a procession will be from the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home to the cemetery at 10:45 a.m. Visitation will be Friday, March 31, 2017 from 5pm to 7pm in the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home. The family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Ashland County Historical Society, 420 Center Street, Ashland, Ohio 44805. For those who may not be able to attend, online condolences may be shared on the funeral home’s website at denbowfh.com. Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home & Crematory is handling the arrangements.
