<p>Gary Lee Finley, 78</p><p><br></p><p>Gary Lee Finley, 78 of Ashland passed away on Wednesday, June 3, 2020 in University Hospitals Samaritan Medical Center following a courageous battle with Leukemia, COPD, and Congestive Heart Failure.</p><p><br></p><p>He was born on June 30, 1941 in Ashland to the late Ray B. and Viola (nee Shank) Finley.</p><p><br></p><p>Gary left Ashland High School in 1959 but earned a G.E.D. in 1989 at the top of his class.</p><p><br></p><p>He married the love of his life, the former Ann English on January 29, 1966 at the Salvation Army Citadel on 3rd Street.</p><p><br></p><p>He retired after many years from the Dana Corporation, formerly HYCO Company as a machinist.</p><p>Gary portrayed Santa Clause for over 15 years, at local business’ and private homes. He was known for passing out pictures of Santa to children at local business’ and restaurants for many years. </p><p><br></p><p>Gary was a member of the Jeromesville Community Club, a social member of the Ashland Eagle Aerie #2178, U.A.W. 1773, a social member of AMVETS Post 149, and a former member of both New Pittsburg and Ashland Evening Lions Club. He attended the Salvation Army with his wife, Ann who was a member. Throughout his life, he was a number one Goodwill shopper, wearing his tie dye shirts; and enjoyed camping, motorcycles, and tinkering around.</p><p><br></p><p>He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ann Finley of Ashland; one special nephew, Ted Reip of Mansfield; one special niece, Penny Mendenhall-Stone of Wooster; five generations of numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends, Bev Wiley of Ashland and Jerry and Peggy Martin of Ashland and Mickey and Steve McAllister of Mansfield.</p><p><br></p><p>In addition to his parents, Gary is preceded in death by eight brothers; three sisters; and his canine companion, Maxxamillon Baxxter. </p><p><br></p><p>Funeral services will be held Monday, June 8, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. in the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home with Reverend Don Earlenbaugh officiating. He will be laid to rest in Reedsburg Cemetery. Following the service, a meal and time of fellowship picnic will be held in Brookside Park.
