Phyllis Algeo Obituary

Phyllis J. Algeo, 90 Phyllis J. Algeo, 90 of Hayesville, formerly of Savannah and Millersburg, passed away peacefully Sunday, April 9th, at LifeCare Hospice in Wooster. She was born Phyllis Jean Long, on September 21, 1926, in Ostrander, Ohio. She was the daughter of the Reverend Dr. Alva A. Long and Ruth (Inskeep) Long. Phyllis graduated from Saint Paris High School and received her degree in Education from Ashland College. At Ashland, she met the love of her life, Richard H. Algeo. They were married on July 23rd, 1949. Phyllis taught Kindergarten and first grade for 25 years, in Sullivan, Chester, Nashville, and most of her career at Killbuck Elementary. She gave her all to her students, and considered each of them to be special individuals. She is survived by her husband and daughters Barbara (Bill), Morgan, Mitzi “Kate” (Rob) Wilkins and Patricia (Bob) Young. She was affectionately known as “Grinky”, and will be very missed by her grandchildren Kathryn (Rocky) Otten, Ed (Carrie) Blum, Marjorie (John) Hamers, Richard Scott Wilkins, Brian (Kimberly) Young, Bethany Young, Christopher (Melissa Lao) Young, great-grandchildren Amanda, JonAlec, Noah, Carter, Ginny, Aspen, Kasen, Savannah, Sophia, and great-great-grandchildren, Willow, Tristan, Benjamin and Francine. She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved twin brother Phillip (Mary) Long, her sister Betty (Paul) Moore, niece Cathy Marshall and great-nephew David Spilfogel. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 6th at 11:00 a.m. in the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home with visitation immediately before the service from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the Hayesville-Vermillion Fire Department, at 8 East Main Street, Hayesville, Ohio, 44838. The family would like to thank the Hayesville-Vermillion Fire Department, the 2nd floor nursing staff of Wooster Hospital and the caring staff at LifeCare Hospice of Wooster.
