Richard M. “Mike” McDaniel, 84, of Ashland, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday April 25, 2017. He was born on June 20, 1932, in Ashland, Ohio, to Marshall (Mike) and Hazel (Weltmer) McDaniel After graduating from Ashland High School he enlisted in the Navy for four years. He was on the destroyer U.S.S. Richard Anderson during the Korean War. In later years he enjoyed going to Navy reunions. He was a self-employed mason who took great pride in his work. Mike was married to Grace (McKean) McDaniel for over 50 years, and she survives. Mike is also survived by son Michael (Cheryl) Fulk, grandson Todd (Shelli) Fulk, and great-grandchildren Kiana, Hailey and Connor; sister-in-law, Norma McVey and brother-in-law, Raymond McKean also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, half-brother Thomas Gierhart, half-sisters, Connie Thomas and Marsha Augler, sisters-in-laws, Carol Householder and Barbara McKean and brother-in-law, Robert McVey. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday May 2, 2017 from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home. We will then process to the Ashland Cemetery where graveside services, and burial, will be held at 2:15 p.m. with the Rev. Donald Earlenbaugh officiating. The Ashland Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military honors at the gravesite. For those not able to attend, expressions of sympathy may be made to the family by visiting denbowfh.com
