Douglas "Doug" Leroy Hensley Obituary

Hensley, Douglas "Doug" Leroy, a genuine, kind, and patient man, age 75, of Medway, passed away Monday, October 21st, 2019. He was born August 29th, 1944 to Marilyn (Coriell) and Roy Hensley. He graduated from Bellbrook HS and ITT Technical Institute, and spent 28 years of his career as a mechanical designer at Hobart Corporation. Doug was a knowledgeable gun collector, and he enjoyed going to gun shows and trading insights with the experts. He loved cars, especially his 66' Mustang GT, and enjoyed racing during his teenage years, a hobby that evolved into a love for Nascar. He even worked as an usher during the Indy 500 on a few occasions. He often took his kids fishing on Fridays, camping on the Ohio River, and hunting for rabbit and deer. He enjoyed checking in daily with friends at the clubs where he was a member. Doug also loved dogs, especially his beloved German Shepherd, Caesar. He liked making tacos on Sundays, watching M.A.S.H., and listening to talk radio or the Miami Vice soundtrack. Doug was extremely proud of his kids, and was the kind of man that nurses and caregivers fought to have, because he was such a delight. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Gene Hensley, and great-grandson Baby Daniel. Doug is survived by wife, Barbara, children Andrew (Eileen) Hensley, Lisa (Rob) Apana, Scott (Margo) McDaniel, Mike (Sherrie) McDaniel, Steven (Roxanne) McDaniel, and Sherri (Nick) Behr, grandchildren Daniel (Cristina), Aaron, and Breandan Hensley, Emily and Andrea Apana, Evan and Avery (Rachael) McDaniel, Austin and Trevor (Elizabeth) McDaniel, Christopher, Michelle, and Makayla McDaniel, Audrey (Lyn) Dickson, Isaac, Joshua and Miriam McDaniel, Dylan, Alex, Leah, and Kyra Behr, great-granchildren Edward Hensley and Timothy McDaniel, brother Greg (Kim) Hensley, and friends Dan Bowers and Mike Cooksey. To help the family celebrate his life, you are invited to share during the Life Celebration Visitation at Conner & Koch Life Celebration Home (92 W Franklin St, Bellbrook, OH 45305) on Thursday, Oct. 24, 2019 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. Life Celebration Funeral Services will be held Friday, October 25th, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Conner & Koch Life Celebration Home, with burial to follow at Bellbrook Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to 4 Paws for Ability (253 Dayton Ave, Xenia, OH 45385) because of Doug's love for dogs and his admiration of veterans.
