Jack Woods Bellbrook, Ohio Obituary

Jack Woods

Air Force Veteran, Photographer, and devoted Christian, Jack Woods, age 96, of Cincinnati, passed away Saturday, June 6th, 2020 at his home. He was born on July 2nd, 1923 and was raised by George and Louise Applegate. Like so many from his generation, Jack answered the call to duty and served in the Army Air Corp in both active duty and military reserves from 1941 to 1967. While stationed in Germany, Jack flew over 450 air missions, directing enemy fire, over enemy lines in lite aircraft at low altitude. He continued his flight missions in the Korean War while stationed in South Korea. During Vietnam, he used his expertise and leadership as a helicopter instructor to mentor and train other soldiers. Jack received seven Air Medals as well as many other commendations throughout his distinguished military career, placing his mark on history by helping to defeat the enemies of peace and liberty. Jack was a dedicated and loyal man. He opened his own Photography business, Jack Woods Photography, and worked hard for over 50 years. He brought the same level of commitment to teaching Sunday School and serving the church. Jack was a doting and adoring husband to Geraldine, who he would have done anything for. Together they were able to travel the world, but were especially fond of their trips to Hawaii and being able to participate in missions work. Jack will be remembered as a teacher, mentor, pilot, photographer, Christ-follower, and a Sarris Chocolate fanatic. Jack was preceded in death by his parents George and Louise Applegate, brothers George Applegate and David Applegate, and sister in law Phyllis Applegate. Jack is survived by his wife of 77 years, Geraldine Woods (Casterline), children Richard Woods (Terri), Jack D. Woods (Donna), and Janice Putnam (Bobby), grandchildren Jack Loren Woods (Shellie), Bill Roberts, Wendy Ferron (Bobby), Brent Roberts (Vanessa), Jeremy Woods (Sophia), Leslie Woods, Melissa Woods, and Nikki Woods, 14 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, sisters Judy Bilak (Mike) and Lorene Mueller, sister-in-law Fran Applegate, and numerous nieces and nephews and friends.
