William Smith

SMITH, William O. DVM, of Dayton, age 85 passed away Sunday June 18, 2017. He was born on October 27, 1931 in Barnesville, OH to the late William L. and Hildred O. Smith. He graduated from Ohio State University School of Veterinary Medicine and began practicing in 1956. William proudly served 8 years in the Army Reserves, achieving Captain ranking. He was the founder and former co-owner with his partner, Joe T. Fergus DVM, of Gettysburg Animal Clinic, N. Main Animal Clinic and Clayton Animal Hospital. He retired in 1998 after 43 years of practicing. William was a member of the Dayton Medical Veterinary Association, active in Educational Concerns for World Hunger, Fort Myers, FL and a longtime member of Northminster Presbyterian Church in Dayton. He volunteered at Aullwood Audubon Nature Center treating injured animals. William was a co-founder of OKONTOE, a family Christian campground in Minnesota. William is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Christine (Claunch); daughter Teri (Mark) Young; sons Alan (Cynthia) Smith and Douglas (Lori) Smith; 4 grandchildren Chandler, Nicole, Natalie and Brandon; many loving family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Donald L. Smith of Barnesville, OH. Funeral Service will be held 12PM Friday June 23, 2017 at Baker-Hazel & Snider Funeral Home 5555 Philadelphia Dr. Dayton OH 45415. The family will receive visitors 10am until time of service at the funeral home. Officiating by Chaplain David Rusk. Burial to follow at David’s Cemetery.
