Charles Payne, age 76, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away peacefully with his wife, Diana by his side. He was born in Fort Knox, Kentucky on January 10, 1941 to Raymond and Lily Payne. Chuck earned a B.A. degree in Philosophy from the University of Notre Dame and shortly thereafter entered the United States Air Force Officer Training School. Chuck left the Air Force as a Captain to enter the University of Berkley, School of Optometry. Chuck ran a successful optometry practice for over 20 years. He earned a Master’s Degree in Theology from the Franciscan University of Steubenville in 1997. He served the Catholic Church as a Director of Religious Education in Florida and Toledo. His love of the Lord (and Notre Dame Football) continued throughout his life.
He is survived by his loving wife, Diana; daughter, Toni (Robert); son, Katsunobu; 5 granddaughters, 2 grandsons and 5 great grandsons. Chuck is also survived by his 4 brothers and 4 sisters, Gerald, Michael, Steven, James, Laura, Patricia, Theresa and Mary Ann.
Friends are invited to visit from 3:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. Thursday at Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 Sylvania Avenue, where the Rosary will be recited at 7:00p.m. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 2240 Castlewood Drive at 11:00am Friday, where friends are invited to visit after 10:00a.m. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
