Obituary for Edith D. Johnson

? ? Edith D. Johnson of Toledo passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 23, 2008 in her home at the Sunset House. She was born on November 3, 1918 in Boston, MA to Dennis and Edith Dooley. She attended the Girls' Latin School and graduated from Manhattanville College in 1940. She met William A. Johnson of Toledo during college and they were married on September 22, 1945. ? Edie, as she was known by all, was a loving wife, mother and grandmother of six sons and 16 grandchildren. She was an avid golfer and tennis player, as well as an expert bridge player, playing up to the last few months of her life. She was also involved in various community organizations, volunteering at the Toledo Museum of Art and Mobile Meals. She and her husband, Bill, were long time members of the Inverness Club and Toledo Club.?? ?? ? She was preceded in death by her husband, William A. Johnson and her infant grandson, Timothy. She is survived by her sons, Arthur (Barbara), Boston, MA; Dennis (Sheila), Toledo; William Philip (Susan), San Francisco, CA; Paul (Denise), Toledo; Frederick (Avery), Pasadena, CA; Francis, Toledo; niece, Linda Hockenberger Brooks and her grandchildren, Nora, Megan, Bill, Betsy, Kathleen, Susan, Peter, Charlie, Stephen, Ellen, Gregory, Juliet, Dean, Lauren and Austin. ? Visitation will be from 4 - 8 p.m. on Sunday, July 27, 2008 at the Ansberg West Funeral Home, 3000 W. Sylvania Ave. Toledo, Ohio. The Mass of Christian Buraial will be held at Gesu Church, 2049 Parkside Blvd., Toledo, Ohio at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July, 28, 2008. ? The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff of the Woodlands and the Sunset House for their loving care of Edith over the past 8 years and a special thanks to Kathy Roman for her love and companionship. The family suggests memorial donations to The Sunset House Employee Appreciation Fund or the Toledo Museum of Art. ????? ? ? ? ? ? ?
