Obituary for Edward Francis Clancy

Edward F. Clancy, 85, passed away on Tuesday August 26, 2008 in the Sunset Retirement Village in Sylvania. He was born in Toledo on October 12, 1922 to Sophia and Patrick Clancy. Edward spent his childhood in Conneaut Ohio. He was a graduate of Conneaut High School and also attended Kent State University. Edward served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy during WWII where he was stationed in the South Pacific Theatre. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a supervisor for over 40 years by the Norfolk Southern Rail Road. He was a member of G.B.U., a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus and was a past Grand Night in Conneaut. He loved watching all sports, especially Notre Dame Football and was a member of the St. Pius X's Ma & Pa bowling league. Prior to her passing, Edward enjoyed traveling throughout the world with his wife Dorothy. He was a member at St. Catherine's Church for over 35 years. Edward's pride and joy was that of spending time with his family. Throughout the years he attended as many of his grandchildren's sporting events as possible. He will be remembered for his smile, sense of humor, and twinkle in his Irish eyes. His family will always think of "Papa's" many Irish and military expressions of wit. He is survived by his loving family, daughter, Mary Ellen (Robert) Bernardo; grandchildren, Raegan (Robert) Lange, Aaron (Heather) Bernardo, Kylee (Aaron) Alter; great-grandchildren Vivienne and Eva Lange; brothers, James Clancy and Richard Clancy. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy and sister Mary Ellen Clancy. Friends are invited to visit on Friday, from 3:00-8:00PM in the Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 Sylvania Ave. where prayers will begin in the Funeral Home at 9:15AM on Saturday and will be immediately followed a funeral mass at 10:00AM at St. Catherine's Church. Rev. Doug Garand Officiant. Interment in Calvary Cemetery. Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider the Alzheimer's Association or the charity of the donor's choice.
