Edward F. Kiefer, 86, of Toledo, died Friday, February 23, 2007, at The Toledo Hospital, after a long illness. A Toledo native, he was a 1937 Central Catholic High School graduate and attended Washington and Jefferson College in Washington, PA. Ed was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, including service in Italy. Edward worked nearly 20 years for Toledo Raceway Park, joining the track as publicity and advertising director, in 1974. His duties, for many years, included giving harness racing results each morning on several radio stations in Northwest Ohio. He previously had worked as an account executive for Beeson-Reichert-Richard, then Toledo's largest public relations firm, and as editor of the West Toledo Herald community newspaper. He was a founding member of St. Pius X Parish where he was a Scout Leader and usher. Edward is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Regina "Jean" Kiefer; sons, Gary Kiefer and Jim Kiefer; daughter, Elise Bondy; 7 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren and his sister Irma Sheller. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward J. and Elizabeth Kiefer and sister, Dorothy. Friends are invited to visit from 2-8 p.m. Monday, in the Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 Sylvania Avenue, (between Douglas and Secor Roads). Prayers will begin at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, from the funeral home followed by the Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Pius X Catholic Church. Father James Sanford will officiate.
