Elizabeth “Betty” Layman, 90, passed away on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg. She was born in Defiance, Ohio on September 5, 1927, to Rose and Joseph Desch. She graduated from Defiance High School and then worked in the office at the local telephone company.
Betty married John Layman of Defiance on May 5, 1951. They moved to Toledo in 1960. He preceded her in death in 1995. Betty was a longtime member at Blessed Sacrament Parish and later Christ the King Parish. She was very active in Christ the King’s Over “50” Group and was a volunteer in the parish office. She was also involved in KCettes.
Her family was blessed to celebrate Betty’s 90th birthday and wonderful life this past September. All 25 of her children, daughters and son-in-laws, grandchildren and their spouses, and great-grandchildren were present for the celebration.
Betty is survived by her children, Stephen (Alice) Layman of Charlottesville VA, Jane (Phil) DeMars of Maumee, OH., Ann (Jerry) Kowell of Prescott AZ., Kathleen (John) Eisel of Sylvania, OH., Christine (Allen) Fuqua of Peoria AZ., James (Wendy) Layman of Toledo, OH.; grandchildren, Kimberly, Stacey, Laura, Michelle, Martha, and Dustin; great-grandchildren, Nora, Carson, and Harrison. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother William Desch, and sister Mary Batt.
Her family would like to thank the staffs at Lakes of Monclova and Hospice of Northwest Ohio for their loving care.
Friends are invited to visit on Sunday February 4, 2018 from 1:00-5:00pm in the Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 W. Sylvania Ave. where a Rosary will be recited at 5:00pm. The Mass of the Resurrection will begin at 10:00am on Monday at Christ the King Church, Rev. William Rose Officiant. Interment will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
